Author James Redfearn will discuss his book "The Rising at Roxbury Crossing".  The novel follows Boston police officer Willie Dwyer, who is haunted by a decade-old secret, a secret he carried to America. Swept up in the tumult of post-war 1919, Irish-American immigrants, the backbone of Boston's police force work grueling 60-100 hour weeks for about $2.00 a day. In Ireland, the Republican Brotherhood wages a guerrilla war with England for national sovereignty, supported by Boston's Irish neighborhoods. Frustrated by political promises, Boston's guardians strike for fair pay and better working conditions. And as the city erupts, Willie Dwyer's nemesis crosses an ocean and comes to hunt him down.

Music, Movement and Me with Sara Epstein is an interactive class for parents and their children, filled with singing, dancing and playing instruments together. Caregivers and children learn the basics of pitch and rhythm while exploring a range of musical styles. Program is appropriate for ages 4 and under; Limit 20;Registration is required and limited to Walpole residents.Sponsored by the Friends of the Walpole Public Library.

Lucy the R.E.A.D. Dog

Come and read with Lucy! Lucy is a specially trained Reading Education Assistant Dog who loves to share stories. She likes it when children read to her, and she likes to read stories to children. Lucy is a registered Therapy Dog with Massachusetts Pet Partners. You can read more about Lucy at http://www.lucythereaddog.com. This program is suitable for ages 3 to 6; registration is required and limited to Walpole residents. Participants can bring their favorite story to read to Lucy!

Author Stephanie Schorow, a former reporter for the Boston Herald and a freelance writer, will speak about her book, The Cocoanut Grove Fire.    The tragedy, in which four hundred ninety-two people perished, was over in a matter of minutes and is still today the worst nightclub fire in U.S. history.
