
Barone will present a recital of classical guitar music from the traditional and 20th century repertoires. The first half of the program features music of the baroque and classical periods, including Mauro Giuliani’s Grande Sonata Eroica as well as Lute Suite No. 1 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The second half will include music written in the 20th century, including Frank Martin’s Quatre Pièces Brèves (1933) and The Elves Suite (1984), a piece written by living Russian composer Nikita Koshkin.
Award-winning guitarist Francesco Barone has performed throughout the United States as soloist and chamber musician. He has been featured by guitar festivals and societies, including The Hartt School Guitar Festival, the Connecticut Guitar Society, and the New England Guitar Society. Barone performed as featured soloist on a La Bella Strings sponsored concert in 2011, and his performances have been broadcast on National Public Radio. He is also a prizewinner of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society Guitar Competition. As a dedicated teacher, Barone has taught at Columbia University, The Hartt School, and Capital Community College. He currently teaches at the Community Music School of Essex [Connecticut].
