Troop 44 has been in existence for about 50 years. Scouts have quietly performed countless acts of service throughout the town. For every Eagle Scout, there has been a community service project as part of the requirements for that rank. The vast majority of citizens in this community have no idea about the good work these young men do.
In order to advance along the scouting trail, much of what the Scouts learn is in the out of doors, and so we camp every month of the year. Depending upon the weather, we may be in a cabin in the very cold and frigid months. We may travel out of state to visit historic sites or to experience challenging activities.
Scouts have attended National Jamborees, participated in National High Adventure programs and National Order of the Arrow Annual Conferences. We have had many scouts serve in leadership positions for our District, Council, Section, and Region. Several have attended the National Youth Leadership Training program, and some have gone on to become instructors in that program. We attend summer camp each July at our Council camp in Plymouth Massachusetts. We have had several scouts become a staff member there. Danny Murphy recently became an Eagle Scout. His project was the installation of the new sign at the Deacon Willard Lewis House, plus planting and renovations in the gardens on the property.
